The Marbella International Film Festival received major recognition
by audiences, politicians, academics and the industry, on the
first leg of its world tour in Miami. One day screening of the
award winning films from the Marbella Festival, together with
exhibition of Spanish art, culture and tourism generated huge
interests from the Miami public, many of whom have close links
with Spain.
The Festival which was hosted by University of Miami, started
by a formal presentation of a certificate of recognition by the
Mayor of Miami Dade County to Mac Chakaveh, the Festival director,
in recognition of the works carried out by the festival and its
organisers the New World Trust, in providing support for independent
artists while providing a platform for cultural exchanges.
The Festival was attended by Dr. Donna Shalala, The president
of University of Miami, Ms. Maria Luisa Gomez de Pablos, The trade
commissioner representing the Spanish Embassy, Dr Sam Grogg the
Dean of School of Communications, as well as representatives from
the Mayors of Coral Gables and the Miami Dade County. Twenty award
winning films from twelve countries were screened to applauses
from audiences, the wide diversity of subject maters, artistic
values and varied cultural representations, generated positive
responses from critics and the general public alike. With the
enthusiastic support from the Mayors office, the University
of Miami, as well as many cultural and commercial organisations,
the Marbella International Film Festival, has already set November
2008, as the date for its return to Miami, for what is promised
to be an outstanding cultural annual event. Next stop London.
